The section beginning on page 60 introduces Lydia, the woman Carmen's father is planning to marry. In a page from her journal, she talks about the flowers that she's planning for the wedding and her need to pick up the girls' shoes so they can break them in before the day of the wedding. Tibby makes a list of people she will include in a documentary on people who live lives of desperation, including Wallman's employees Roberta and Duncan, a waitress named Brenda, and someone named Brian McBrian. Carmen makes a list of the items Lydia wants to serve at the wedding, and a separate list of the foods her father would probably prefer to serve, which turn out to be the same foods that were served at his wedding to Carmen's mother.
