Summary
Kate in Waiting opens with a section entitled, “Overture,” at (an unnamed) summer camp on the very last day of the summer session. Kate and her best friend, Anderson (a boy whom she calls Andy), are ready to depart, and Andy tells Kate it is time to say farewell to Matt, the camp vocal consultant on whom Andy and Kate both have crushes. The pair express their gratitude to Matt and request a selfie. Matt obliges and they say goodbye.
In “Scene 1” the action shifts to Kate’s first day of junior year at Roswell Hill High School. Andy and Kate are on their way into the high school when they encounter a car full of “fuckboys” (6).
