Larry a.k.a. Shuli
Larry is the protagonist of the novel. In 1999, he is a 30-year-old man living in Brooklyn, New York and working in marketing. His family is Orthodox Jewish, but in his adulthood, he decided that he was no longer interested in practicing religion. After his father dies, Orthodox Jewish practices dictate that Larry must say the Kaddish prayer every day and attend all synagogue services for 11 months, or else his father will not be allowed into heaven. Larry, not wanting this inconvenient responsibility, finds a website called kaddish.com, where he pays a fee and signs a digital document so that a Jewish student in Jerusalem will say the necessary prayers in his stead.
