Kaaterskill Falls, 1970s, is a rural, mountainous town located in upstate New York about three hours north of the City. Kaaterskill Falls is an isolated, traditional, and conservative community, with many of the year-round locals being able to trace their roots back to the earliest Dutch settlers. The town and area are full of traditional wood and brick homes, and until the first chapter of the novel has known now modern architecture. Kaaterskill Falls plays host to the Kirshner community each summer and serves as the perfect setting for the community. The traditional, conservative, rural, and isolated nature of the place allows a focus on the faith, and shutting out the outside world.
