Summary
In Part 4, Chapter 4, Ira Rubin has grown taller and still has a crush on Renee. Ira brings Renee a chocolate milkshake, and explains it was his great-great-grandfather who built the shul. Ira explains he is not religious, and presses Renee as to why she is. She explains she is religious because her parents are, then leaves to visit Stephanie. There, Renee is stunned to find strange men in the house with Stephanie and her mother. Renee is also stunned to learn that Stephanie and her family will be moving. Renee returns home, unable to explain what is going on when her mother asks her what is wrong. The town is swirling with rumors about the hasty departure of the Fawess family.
