Summary

In Part 3, Chapter1, the story is set from September to November, 1976. Elizabeth, Isaac, and their daughters have returned to New York City. It is dark and noisy. Elizabeth reflects on how Rav Kirshner has not spoken in public since being released from the hospital. Elizabeth knows the rabbi is weak, and so she must wait on her plans for a store until times change or improve. The Rav is seen with his two sons. Elizabeth, along with her sister-in-law, Pearl, and her husband, Moshe, talk about it. Pearl and Moshe, along with their daughters, are attending Rosh Hashanah dinner prepared by Elizabeth. Moshe explains the rumor going around is that Jeremy has been asked to the shiur next month, and Jeremy has agreed.

Later, Elizabeth asks Isaac about seeing Rav Kirshner. She tells Isaac he does not know how she feels...
