Chapters Nineteen and Twenty Summary
Annabel gets to the courthouse early with her family around her in support. She looks for Owen, but there is no sign of him. She keeps looking for him, thinking he will arrive in the last moment, but he doesn't. When the prosecutor calls her to the stand an hour and a half later, she is on her own, and she gets her first unobstructed view of Will. The first thing she notices is the black eye that he has, despite someone's efforts to cover it up with makeup.
