Chapters Eight and Nine Summary
Owen's large frame is confined in Annabel's small car, but he adjusts himself. He is more uncomfortable by the silence. Annabel points him to the Cd's in her center console, and he goes through them, surprised by the fact that her tastes lean towards alternative country and even more so by the current rap CD by Tiny. He selects a CD made for Annabel by her sister Kirsten, and the sound brings a bittersweet memory of her. She apologizes for having deserted him at lunch, and for freaking out. They sit in his driveway, talking, and Annabel feels the need to explain herself to him. Owen insists that anger is a good thing and that just because a person gets upset doesn't mean that they stay upset. Annabel argues the issue, telling him that in her experience...
