Chapter Five Summary
Owen helps Annabel to her feet, but she is so woozy that he suggests she sit down again. He digs out a package of Kleenex for her and asks if she is okay. Annabel tries to brush it off as nothing, but Owen had seen the whole incident so there was no reason for pretense. Her phone rings, and she answers to discover that Whitney will not be picking her up and her Mother wants to know if she can get a ride home on her own. Annabel tells her she can, and can hear her mother relax on the other end. Owen overhears, and offers her a ride which she wisely accepts. He leads her to his Land Cruiser and helps her to get buckled in. Annabel looks around, taking note of the abundance of Cd's in his vehicle, and...
