Point of View

King uses a variety of different points of view in his collection of stories. The majority of these stories are narrated from the third-person point of view with a focus on a character in the story. “Willa,” “The Gingerbread Girl,” “Harvey’s Dream,” “Stationary Bike,” “Graduation Afternoon,” “The Cat from Hell,” “The New York Times at Special Bargain Rates,” and “Mute” are all told by a third-person narrator. This character of focus is also the main character in all of these stories. For instance, “Willa” focuses on David. The story “The Gingerbread Girl” focuses on Emily. “Harvey’s Dream” focuses on Janet, “Stationary Bike” focuses on Sifkitz, “Graduation Afternoon” focuses on Janet, and “The Cat from Hell” focuses on Halston. Annie is the character of focus in the story “The New York Times at Special Bargain Rates” while the story “Mute” focuses on Monette.
