Power and Corruption
Julius Caesar is a beloved leader and it seems that he is an honorable man but it could be that he is near the point of being corrupted by the level of power he’s achieved. Antony offers him a crown during an event and as Casca relates the scene to Brutus, he says that Caesar handed the crown back to Antony each of the three times it was offered. Casca says that Caesar seemed reluctant and it may be that he was considering accepting it. This seems even more likely considering Caesar’s reaction when Decius offers an alternative explanation to Calpurnia’s dream. Decius says the dream actually means the Roman officials are going to offer Caesar a great honor and Caesar prepares to go to the Senate. It seems he is hoping for a great honor.
