North Bronx
The neighborhood that Juliet lives in with her family is in the North Bronx. She calls it the part of the Bronx that no one ever travels to, split from the South Bronx and Westchester County. Her neighborhood is always loud with the sounds of the train, sirens from ambulances, and people. Juliet's family has been living in the same house in the neighborhood since the early 1940s.
Portland
Portland is the ultimate liberal, hippie city that is juxtaposed against the Bronx. Portland people ride bikes, eat local, hold rallies, don't bath, don't eat meat, and are very liberal. Harlowe is the epitome of the Portland hippie. Juliet finds solace in the quietness of the city as well as people's openness about being gay.
