Summary
Part II opens with an image of a wolf pup with a feather in her mouth. Kapugen is called away on a search mission before she can tell him about the wolves, and the days pass without them having the chance to talk. One day she helps Peter gather the qivit (hair that can be woven) and she and Ellen celebrate the births of two more females. Ellen broaches the subject of Julie attending high school. Julie, realizing she would have to leave Kangik, agrees only to think it over. She feels she has to save the wolves before she can leave the village. She announces plans to make a garment for the baby, which signifies that she is no longer jealous. She encounters Peter who says he has seen some of her wolves about 40 miles away...
