Summary

Julie Edwards Miyax Kapugen hears a wolf howling in the distance. She recognizes the voice of Kapu, part of a wolf pack she lived with while she was lost on the vast tundra of Alaska, but she has decided to return home to her father, Kapugen, and knows he would kill the wolf. She is only 14 years-old and has recently spent time on the tundra because she was running away from an arranged marriage that became unbearable. She had entered her father's home in the village of Kangik the previous day, but she was torn when she found out how much he had changed. First, he had married to a white woman.
