Second Chances

The author explores two types of second chances that are offered in the world of romance. One type is a second chance to find love. The other is the second chance to find love with an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend.

Aileen’s relationship with her new boyfriend symbolizes the second chance to find love if one is willing to grow. Aileen’s marriage with her husband failed because he could not accept her for who she is, but she could not accept him either. He found her behavior “embarrassing” (30). Instead of trying to understand him, she shook her head when he said this as if she pitied him for not being able to share her manner of living. She was disappointed because he was dull.

She has grown by the time she meets Glenn. He shows that he appreciates her character by giving her inserts instead...
