Point of View

The novel’s narration is written in the third person and the last tense. The narration also perspective is close and limited, meaning it is filtered through the perspective of one character’s point of view at any given time. Megan and Jillian are the two main point-of-view characters, but the novel also occasionally shifts into the perspectives of supporting characters. Supporting point-of-view characters include Randy, Carrie, Amanda, Elena, and others. By providing details both about the characters’ external behaviors and interior lives, the novel is able to examine both the connections and the divergences between the two spheres. For example, Elena’s sense of haughty superiority is more explicit in her thoughts than in her outward words and actions, although it is somewhat apparent in her outward bearing too.
