Summary
In Part 2, Chapter 1, Jillian scrambles to cover the dog’s needs and expenses over the following days. One day, while driving to buy a pet crate, she runs a red light and is pulled over by a police officer. The officer sees the records of her license suspension and her unpaid fines. The police impound Jillian’s car, and Jillian receives a traffic court date. Jillian calls in to work to say that she hit a deer with her car and that the car needs to be repaired. Megan deduces the truth and feels a sense of sadistic pleasure. Jillian claims to have been injured in the accident, and a doctor in the office gives her a prescription for painkillers with codeine in them. Jillian begins taking the train to and from work, and she even begins to seemingly believe her...
