Chapter 8 Summary
Chapter 8 provides the reader with follow-up information about the numerous events that happened in chapter 7. The chapter begins by stating that Charlie did not leave Corrigan as he and Eliza had thought about doing. Instead, Charlie shares that his mother left Corrigan, him and his father. Charlie informs the reader that she left the night she was caught with the other man but that she didn't leave before making a scene in their home that the neighborhood heard.
Charlie's mother screamed, fought, threw things and cried to his father but, like always, his father stood like a statue and allowed her to do it. She also came into Charlie's room and tore it apart, stealing his suitcase.
