The Sins of the Past Haunt the Present
A common theme throughout this book is that the mistakes made in the past still affect people in the present. Holberg’s crimes and Einar’s existence are strong examples of this. Holberg raped Katrin, and now his son is paying the price. Einar lost his only daughter and his marriage because of the genetic disease that Holberg passed down to him to carry.
