Summary
Part Five is titled 2012. Chapter 37 is titled “Shine.” Greg Piefer was founder of a company called SHINE that wanted to develop a manufacturing method for an isotope used in diagnostic imaging. Paul Ryan had talked to Piefer several times, one of many calls Paul made in an effort to recruit business to Janesville. While some, like Mary, felt this was a positive move toward the future, others, like Sharon at Blackhawk, feared that people were putting too much hope into a very small venture. The city agreed to donate the land worth $1.5 million and to extend utilities in addition to standing good for a $4 million loan.
