Summary

Part Four is titled 2011. Chapter 28 is titled “The Ambassador of Optimism.” Mary felt the Rock County 5.0's message should be to encourage everyone to be optimistic. Scott Walker was elected governor, and the animosity mounted quickly. After Mary wrote an opinion piece about optimism for the newspaper, locals became angry at her. They felt she was saying “the only thing they need to do for the economy to recover is to become an optimist” (Location 2046). Mary retained her optimism, determined to be a leader despite the negtivity. Walker began a tour of the state, meeting with Mary and Diane in Beloit. They talked specific strategies, including widening a highway and budget restrictions. Mary was optimistic at the end of the meeting.
