Summary

In Chapter 11, Jane and Caleb go in search of the owner of the goat. They find out that the goat belongs to Mrs. Hawthorne. Jane had tried to sell her an insurance policy many years ago. Since her husband's death many years ago, she has lived alone. Mrs. Hawthorne remembers her from years before and tells her that she does not want a policy. They tell her they are there about her goat. They offer to rent him. His name is Bill Clinton.

Jane tells her that Caleb thought the goat was abandoned and took it home. Caleb negotiates with Mrs. Hawthorne to buy the goat. Jane is amazed by his negotiating skills. When they are leaving, Mrs. Hawthorne asks if Caleb can bring her in some wood. He tells her the firewood should be stacked differently to keep it from rotting.
