Summary

In Part Three, Chapter 1, Jim drags Huck to shore. He looks for Norman but does not see him. Huck tells Jim he finally escaped the Duke and King when they ran for Ohio after hearing about the war. He then asks Jim why he saved him instead of Norman. Jim reveals that Huck is his son. He and Huck’s mother grew up together and loved each other.

Jim wakes to find Huck staring at him. Huck asks more questions about being his son. Jim assures Huck he can be whoever he wants (254). Through the night, Jim thinks about Norman. Finally, he and Huck get ready to leave. Huck tries to talk with Jim’s filter, but Jim tells him to talk like himself. He urges Huck to return to Hannibal while he goes to “find some money” to get Sadie and Lizzie...
