Summary

In Part One, Chapter 21, Jim and Huck flee the revival ahead of the Duke and King. Jim panics when he sees a poster on a storefront with a picture of his face marked “Runaway” (124). They run to the water and untie the boat. On the river, Jim tells Huck that he knew his mother and that she was nice and loved Huck. Huck wants to know if she was pretty, but Jim hesitates to answer. A burning boat in the distance interrupts their conversation.

In Chapter 22, the companions continue down the Mississippi. The Duke and King catch up to them as Jim feared. They reveal that they saw Jim’s runaway poster and plan to make their way to another town where they will sell Jim. Each time they sell him, he will run away and they will sell him again...
