March, April and Epilogue Summary and Analysis
March 3rd finds Nancy at Aunt Thelma's. She is happy to find her diary, her "only gaggle." Nancy's mother is with her and they squeeze together in a small plane with Nancy's aunt and uncle to make their way to the ranch. The ranch is beautiful and very quiet. Nancy's mother can only stay three days and so Nancy is left with her Aunt and Uncle. She quickly makes friends with Aunt Thelma's cat, Cougar. Nancy's Uncle Melvin digs a ditch for her diapers and fences it in so the animals cannot get to it. She spends time with their dog, Red Alert, when she is alone. Nancy feels close to nature and to God, loving her quiet time on the ranch. She goes to a little church with a service very different from Catholics...
