Point of View
The novel is told from a close third person limited point of view. While most of the story focuses on Nilanjana, there are some sections that follow Darryl, as well as others that follow less prominent characters such as Larry Leroy, Josh Crayton, and other citizens of Night Vale. The third person point of view allows for the novel to make jumps from character to character when necessary, and ensures that the reader’s experiencing of Night Vale is not merely filtered through a single perspective. This is paramount in a novel that deals with themes such as the importance of valuing different perspectives. Thus, the third person narrative helps us gain a broader understanding, or at least a more diverse picture, of mysterious and wholly bizarre town of Night Vale, which is at the very core of the novel itself.
