Night Vale
Night Vale is the town where the majority of the novel takes place. While it is stated that the town is the most scientifically fascinating place in America, no indication is given as to where in America it exists. The laws that govern the natural universe seem to have no bearing in the town of Night Vale, where doorways to houses that do not exist lead to desert otherworlds and dogs may stand up on their hind legs and begin speaking English without warning. Even time, which seems to sporadically run forward or backward depending on the moment, behaves unusually within the borders of the community. The people of Night Vale, or at least the people who have lived there for their whole lives, seem to pay no mind to the town’s paranormal nature as it is all they have ever known.
