Summary

In Chapter 29, Nilanjana arrives at what is left of the high school gymnasium. As the Secret Police conduct interviews, she sees Carlos, Cecil, Steve, and Abbey standing in the doorway. She runs over to them and finds out Janice is okay. Nilanjana then sees a kiwi bird standing in the gymnasium, who starts speaking to her. The bird is Josh, the shape-shifting teenager who worked at Big Rico’s. Nilanjana asks Josh about what happened, and he tells her about the hole opening up in the floor, and Janice helping people get to safety. He also starts talking about a sound he heard before the incident when his mother arrives, along with his sister, Jackie Fierro, and distracts him.

Pamela Winchell steps up onto her podium and begins delivering an emergency press conference, which is uninformative and mostly nonsensical. After the press...
