Summary
In Chapter 13 Nilanjana and Darryl meet each other for dinner at a hip and upscale restaurant called Tourniquet. Beforehand Nilanjana tries to remind herself that this is not a date, but she has to admit it was more than her curiosity about the church that lead her to agree to go out with Darryl. Early on in the meal they make small talk before Nilanjana asks about Darryl’s history with the Congregation. He tells her about how his parents were involved with the church, and when they died it felt like he had crossed a threshold and there was no going back. Nilanjana tells him about her childhood in Indiana, where her father, an immigrant, and her mother both supported her interest in science, but did not want her to leave Indiana.
