Summary

At the start of Chapter 5 Nilanjana arrives at the pit where Larry Leroy’s house used to be, and has now been roped off by the government investigators. The pit is approximately house-sized, but none of the structure of what used to be Larry’s home remains. Nalanjara takes her tools and materials out of her car and begins to investigate the site. Most people are not allowed to own computers in Night Vale, and so she uses a thick metal box with lights and buttons to take measurements. As she observes the scene, she hears an intermittent noise, like gears or a mouse scuttling by. She ignores the sound, but then as the clouds disappear overhead, she sees a solitary helicopter hovering over her.
