The case file is a symbol of mystery. Jean steals the case file when he quits the detective agency, just a few months after starting, but it contains no information that can help him figure out who Noëlle is or why she disappeared.

General Delivery Card

The general delivery card is a symbol of hazy connection. This is the one concrete item that proves to Jean that Noëlle exists, but the picture of her on the card is blurry and out of focus.

Datebook

The datebook is a symbol of promise. When Jean first finds the datebook in a hidden compartment inside a drawer, he feels as if he was destined to find the book, which he hopes will unlock the mystery of Noëlle for him. Fifty years after finding the datebook, it appears to reveal invisible ink to Jean.
