Summary
In the 13th chapter, the woman working at the art gallery in Rome is revealed to be Noëlle. She had lived in Rome for most of her life. She was constantly living in the present, so she had many gaps and blanks in her memory. Her time spent in France seemed like a few hours spent in a waiting area to her. She had a son that lived in America. She recalled a poem she had once written down in a datebook that had been stolen from her by Gérard, who is identified only by the sheepskin jacket she remembered him wearing. After he stole the datebook, as a joke, she left to Rome without bothering to retrieve it. She had lent the Frenchman one of Gaspard’s photo albums.
