Summary
In the second chapter, Jean inspected the journal, which turned out to be a datebook. Noëlle had only written down a few names, places, and hours from January to June, and the last entry was written on the fifth of July: Gare de Lyon, 9:50. On June 10th, she had written a short poem. There were a few monetary amounts written down, and an annotation reminding herself to ask someone named Marion about finding Roger a job. On June 18th, she had written “If I had known…” (39). Jean attempted to track down addresses and people from the datebook, but he was unsuccessful. Combined with what he knew from Hutte’s fact sheet, Jean had almost nothing. Hutte’s fact sheet had given her Noëlle’s birth date and place, her supposed address, which conflicted with the one Gérard had known her...
