Summary
In Chapter 7, even though Mia had been back in New York for three months, she still felt out of place in her world. She felt she was being followed and stopped going to work. Mia found a leaf on her stoop on the last day of August. She assured herself it was a coincidence, but the next day there was a leaf in the hallway of her building. The phone rang that night. It was Joel. He accused her of being a thief.
Sarah warned Mia that Joel had been to the house in Concord. He told her that the government was trying to take away his property and that Mia had the deed to the land. Sarah said a woman who was a school teacher, who Mia believed was Evangeline, said Mia stole the deed that proved Joel owned the property...
