Auburn Family Residence Room 449

Throughout much of Invisible Child, Dasani and her nine other family members live in Room 449 of the Auburn Family Residence in the Fort Greene neighborhood of northern Brooklyn. One room for ten people of varying ages leaves no room for any privacy, and the room is often noisy and chaotic. Unfortunately, it is also far from sanitary. Roaches are common, and mice droppings are everywhere. Dasani tries to ignore the vermin as much as possible, and when she really needs some time to herself, she goes to a stall in the communal bathroom and sits quietly or reads.
