Summary

In Chapter 13, Chanel meets Supreme, a quiet barber, at a shelter in Harlem. He is a single father to Khaliq and Nana. Nana has a hereditary disorder that will lead to blindness. Supreme is a member of the Five Percenters, a group that split off from the Nation of Islam. Members believe that they are the enlightened 5% of humanity. In time, Chanel begins to follow the dictates of the Five Percenters too.

Chapter 14 reveals that Chanel and Supreme have a tumultuous relationship. Dasani tries to shield the other children from the storms whenever possible. When Dasani is almost four years old, Chanel and Supreme have their first baby together, Maya. A year later in June 2006, the couple has another baby girl named Hada. In June 2007, a baby boy nicknamed Papa is born. The hospital screens Papa's blood and finds evidence that Chanel...
