Happiness Is A State Of Mind
Grace and Jackie Lee move as frequently as need be to keep up with the career path that will take Roland to his goal of being an Admiral one day. They sacrifice friendships, and permanent homes and schools to follow him wherever he is stationed, ready to leave with less than a moment's notice. From childhood, Grace learns that nothing is permanent, and that to make friends will only cause her heartache eventually. As such, she is an independent child, and her relationship with her parents is the only one that has any sense of permanence. Roland is proud of his wife and daughter, and when he accepts the posting to Norfolk to teach, he believes they are finally somewhere where they can stay for a while.
