Summary
Part 2, Section 1, pages 121 - 173, starts with the perspective of Louise. As she starts cleaning out her daughter’s room she thinks about the necklace her daughter wore when she died, a small bluebird inscribed “with love” that was a gift from Lena (127). She feels confused about the necklace and Lena’s motivations in the gift, feeling that it represents “a symbol for everything she didn’t know about her daughter’s life” (129). Louise starts thinking about how she she did not know her daughter, and how her daughters’ death must have been provoked by spending time with Nel Abbott. The perspective changes to Sean Townsend as Louise comes banging on his door with the news that she has found prescription drugs in Katie’s coat pocket with the name Nel Abbott on the label.
