Chapters 2 and 3 Summary

Serena steps closer to the group when she realizes that nobody is doing anything to help the girl. As she does this, she also realizes that the fire is giving off a cold breeze instead of a hot one, and that the girl that stepped into the fire is not burning. This is when Serena realizes that these are Followers—which are the evil doers. She sees the leader of the followers Stanton step out into the crowd. Stanton greets her. Serena feels her amulet glow now, but wonders why it didn't warn her of the danger earlier. As Stanton starts to talk with Serena, Serena runs away with Stanton calling her name behind her.

When Serena wakes up, she is laying in the sand. Collin comes looking for her and she realizes two hours have passed since she left...
