Book 1, Into That Darkness : Chapter 2 Summary and Analysis
Franz Stangl begins describing how things changed when the political climate suddenly changed dramatically. One week Nazis were amongst the illegal political groups targeted for arrest and soon thereafter this man is fearing for both his life and his job. Within a few months he has been transferred and forced to work under German Nazi imports instead of under the normal Austrian officials. He remarks that he hates his boss and makes a few moves to get a promotion with a pension rather than a demotion. He tells the journalist that it works and that the same boss dislikes him after that.
