Summary
In Act I, "Generic Asian Man," second person narrator Willis Wu has always dreamt of becoming Kung Fu Guy. Instead, he is either "Background Oriental Male" or "Oriental Guy Making a Weird Face" (3, 5). He only seems skilled at playing side characters. His parents have played similar parts, both now only seen as an old Asian man and woman.
The scene opens at Golden Palace restaurant. Everyone who looks like Willis starts here, playing the same generic parts. He describes the scene, and his prescribed costume. He wishes he could be a hero like Black and White, but he must work his way up, "starting from the bottom" (11).
Despite his longtime dreams, Willis is still only a generic Asian man. Even his father, who was once a Kung Fu master, is now old and ailing...
