Summary

Chapter 34

Peter arrives at Tris’ cell to tell her that her execution has been scheduled for the next morning. They talk briefly. After Peter leaves, Tris cries. Then she decides that she will turn outward like a true Abnegation. Her parents would be proud.

Chapter 35

Tris is taken to the execution chamber. Along the way she can hear Tobias shouting that he wants to see her. Tris thinks about trading her life for Will’s. Tris is injected and her heart monitor goes quiet.

Tris is not dead. Peter had switched the serum and gave her one that would merely paralyze her. Jeanine does not notice. Once in the hallway, Peter hands Tris over to Tobias and tells them to run.
