Aven
Aven is the protagonist of the novel, a thirteen year old girl who was born without arms, a rare congenital condition. She moves with her family to Arizona for her dad's new job managing a theme park called Stagecoach Pass. Though many believe Aven cannot do the normal things that most people do, Aven's parents have encouraged her to be an independent problem solver. She maintains a positive attitude and a good sense of humor that allow her to bear her heaviest burdens and lift the spirits of others.
At her new school, she befriends Connor, a boy her age with Tourette's syndrome. Together, they attempt to solve the mystery of the missing Cavanaugh family, the owners of the theme park her dad manages.
