Summary

In Chapter 9, Aven decided “to spend my next lunch period in the library” (47). She “nearly tripped over a boy” who was “eating lunch all by himself” (47). She tried to ignore a boy who was barking at her, but when she could not bear it any longer, approached him and asked “are you making fun of me” (49)? He said he could not help it because “I have Tourette syndrome” (49). He explained Tourette syndrome and she told a funny story about how she lost her arms. She told him about the tornadoes in Kansas. Connor’s parents were divorced and he shared the experience of not fitting in at a new school.
