Summary
In Chapter 8, Mitsuki remembered that her father had been in relatively good health and would not have had to stay in the public extended-care facility if he had a family member willing to take care of him at home. Her father had been a member of the postwar middle class and for that reason, he had little in common with the other men in his ward. When Mitsuki and Tetsuo moved into their condominium, Mitsuki brought her father home with her, but after spending only one night there, he told her that he wanted to go home. When he got pneumonia and was sick, she wished for death for his sake but he stayed alive. Mitsuki had been the only one there when her father died. Her mother refused to come.
