Summary

In Chapter 1, twin brothers Emil and Brighton host a block party on their eighteenth birthday. Brighton films the event for his online video series, Celestials of New York. Meanwhile, the Crowned Dreamer constellation rises in the sky, granting celestials increased power. When an uproar ensues, the brothers flee. Two Spell Walkers, Maribelle and Atlas, chase a young woman through the streets.

In Chapter 2, when the woman shoots flames from her wings, Brighton realizes she is a specter, a human who has eaten magical creature blood to gain power. The woman's flames start a growing fire. The boys try helping Maribelle and Atlas. Enforcers get involved. On the train home, the boys talk about what happened. Brighton laments their lack of powers. Emil does not want them because he does not want to kill anyone.
