Truth and Consequences
Truth and Consequences, New Mexico is the new town to which Esther and her family move in the beginning of the novel. A tiny conservative community that is so small, almost everyone relies on bikes to get around. "Truth or Consequences is also situated right along the Rio Grande that, unlike our pool, is filled with water. The river is the only hydrated part of this town" (20). The town's barren environment makes it even more difficult for Esther to adjust to her family's move from Ohio.
Heaven
Heaven is what Color, Beth, Jose, Moss, and Esther call the inside of the old Blockbuster building their mother owns. Filled with reclaimed junk, Heaven is an oasis for each of the friends.
