Summary
Adeleine makes her living by transcribing boxes of postcards, letters, and diaries that have been given to her by a woman named Miriam. Thomas, meanwhile, suffered his stroke after years of migraines preceded by hazy periods called “auras,” which his doctors encouraged him to take simply as precursors to headaches, and no longer paints. Thomas develops an interest in Adeleine, whom he finds extremely beautiful, and begins to watch her as she moves around the building. He starts bringing her cocktails, and the pair eventually develop a friendship, though Adeleine remains guarded about her emotions.
Edith wanders down to Grand Central Station and loses track of her whereabouts. Edward, meanwhile, begins attending therapy to address his struggles with mental health, and quickly develops an attraction to his therapist, Mariana.
