Summary
In Chapter 24, Nando describes going to Hook Mountain, a park in upstate New York, with Karina. He addresses Karina directly, explaining his ambivalent feelings about Mauro, who he feels like he barely knows. He tells Karina he hears her crying at night. He goes on to say he cannot imagine their mother and father together, since they seem so distant from each other now. He says he knows Karina wishes she could vote in the U.S., but he thinks she wishes Mauro was with them more than anything. Karina excelled in high school, but she cannot attend college because she is undocumented.
