Responsibility
Throughout Keir's final year in high school, his troubling behavior keeps mounting. His father Ray does nothing to curtail the behavior. Some small attempts from his sisters to address the issue go nowhere and they are a three-hour drive away.
While Keir's name was cleared of wrongdoing in the football incident, it would be natural for him to carry guilt about the results anyway. But Keir feels no such guilt. He protects himself from ever being guilty of anything.
The same pattern is repeated in the destruction of the statues. First he claims they have good reason for their actions, and the next day when he sees the consequences, he reverts to saying someone else must have done the damage after he and his friends had gone. Same pattern for the soccer party.
Keir deflects responsibility again and again, without noticeable consequence to his life. So it is...
